Colin MacGregor MA Person-centred Counselling., MBACP (Accredited)
Person-centred therapy is based on the view that everyone has the capacity and
desire for personal growth and change, given the right conditions. Rather than taking
up the position of an expert in the client’s life and directing the therapy, the
counsellor offers unconditional positive regard, empathy and honesty to help clients
think differently about the way they see themselves, the way they behave and
ultimately the sense of meaning and fulfilment they find in life.
Working as a person-centred counsellor, I will always acknowledge that you are the
expert in your own life – nobody else knows what it is like to be you.
If you choose to work with me, I’ll sit with you in your turmoil, in your fear, in your
hopes and in your dreams. I won’t tell you what to do. I won’t claim to have the
answers you might be seeking. But I will be by your side as you explore how you’re
feeling and what’s troubling you: and respectfully challenge you where I think it might help.
I haven’t always been a counsellor and bring to my work with clients a rich and
varied range of life experiences. I have milked cows, referenced a library, worked on a production line, managed property portfolios, been a company director and
experienced redundancy and business loss.
As BACP Accredited counsellor I am committed to ongoing learning so that I can
stay up-to-date with latest ways of working with clients’ complex needs. Passionate
about my work with all clients, I have a special interest in men’s mental health and in working with clients who find it difficult to live with societal expectations of gender
and sexuality.
I have experience of working with issues including: Abuse, Addictions, Anxiety, Bereavement, Culture, Depression, chronic health, Identity, Loss, Men’s issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self-esteem, Sexual and gender identity, Sexuality, Stress, Women’s issues and Work-related issues.
